World Environment Day was celebrated on 19th June 2015. Tree Planting Eskom Uganda employees, contractors and external stakeholders from Jinja District, Buikwe District and the Minister of State for Water and Environment participated in a tree planting exercise that saw the rooting of 600 trees on the River Banks of River Nile (The longest river in Africa). This is Eskom Uganda's way of ensuring that the river banks are not degraded and also enhancing the catchment resources for Lake Victoria. This initiative is aligned with Eskom Uganda's strategic objective of Enhanced Risk and Environmental Management, which also fits well with Eskom Uganda's operations that majorly rely on Water as a key resource in the production of Hydro-power. Carbon Emissions Reduction Eskom Uganda employees participated in a Walk to Work campaign. This initiative involves workers leaving their cars at home and choosing to and from walk to work once or twice a week. This initiative saw the collection of 1000km by the 19th June 2015. This effort led to the rise of the Eskom Walking club whose roles not only contributes to environmental protection but also to the health fitness of our employees.
